Grades 1-7: Sunday 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM
For your family’s convenience, Sunday’s class is scheduled immediately after the 9:30 mass so families can attend the 9:30 mass together.
About CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine)
The Saints Peter and Paul Parish CCD program strives to develop and cultivate the faith in every area of the life of the child. Children in 1st through 7th Grade are provided formation and faith experience in our family ministries program. Growing in knowledge and practice of the faith is a lifelong process. It is not accomplished quickly, nor is it complete after a certain number of years. Deepening the knowledge of one’s faith and learning how to live it out is ongoing; growth and change are an integral part of this process. We realize that parents are the primary teachers of their children’s faith and we appreciate all that our parents do for our children. We heavily rely on our parents to be the primary teachers because we have such limited time with them.
Each week, we start out in classrooms by grade to learn together. Then we gather in a large group to pray, to share the Gospel, and to discuss how we can serve others during the week. This format encourages the child spiritually, intellectually, morally, physically, and socially. It also helps them to live their faith and share in the Gospel.
We strongly encourage and need parent participation in the classroom and faith formation at home. At home, parents encourage going to Mass as a family, attending Confession, discussing the weekly Gospel at family dinner, or doing a special devotion together.
Our hope is that CCD is faith formation for the whole family.
Regarding sacraments, our parish CCD Program and Saints Peter and Paul School provide instructions for the reception of First Holy Communion. In order for the children to most fittingly receive their First Holy Communion, the children are instructed about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and receive that Sacrament a few months before their First Holy Communion. Typically, to receive this Sacrament, a child has been enrolled in our religious education or school since the previous year. Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are usually received in 2nd Grade.
Our parish CCD Program and Saints Peter and Paul School also provides instructions for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Typically, to receive this Sacrament, a child has been enrolled in our religious education or school in the previous two years. The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually received in 7th Grade.
If your child attends a private Catholic School, and you would like for them to make their Sacrament at our parish, please contact us. Please note where their religious education is taking place but that they would like to receive their Sacrament at Saints Peter and Paul Parish.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
At the 9:30AM Mass (generally following the school calendar), the readings and Gospel of the day are shared and explained to our preschool and early elementary age children in a manner that they can understand. This is done by active listening, asking questions, sharing stories, crafts, skits, music, and other creative activities.
Middle School Youth Group
This youth group is for all 6th, 7th, 8th Graders and/or High School, from our parish, regardless of what school they attend. We typically meet monthly (during the school year) in the Church Hall, for a combination of social, spiritual, and service activities. The Youth Group welcomes new members and their friends!
