Sunday is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord Jesus, by John the Baptist. As Jesus came up out of the water, a voice was heard saying: ”this is my beloved Son, listen to Him”.
Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father. We, the adopted children of God, are the sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ through our baptism. May we be the children of God and brothers and sisters of Jesus, not just in the name, but in fact, by the way we live our lives in the image of God and the example we give of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
On this feast, we welcome our regional bishop, Bishop John McIntyre. We welcome Bishop McIntyre as he comes to minister to us on his behalf and that of our Archbishop, the Holy Father, and most importantly, in the name of God.
Almighty, eternal God,
when the Spirit descended upon Jesus
at his baptism in the Jordan,
you revealed him as your own beloved Son.
Keep us, your children born of water and the Spirit,
faithful to our calling.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
