Prayer for a Retreat

Dear Parishioners,

On Monday, July 18, I will begin my annual retreat. We priests always look forward to our retreats. This year I will be making my retreat at Saint Mary of Providence Center in Elverson along with a number of other priests.

I look forward each year to the quiet, prayerful atmosphere of retreat. It is a very peaceful, spiritually uplifting experience. I hope all of you have the opportunity to experience a retreat periodically.

Please know among with my family, my personal intentions, and the intentions of the church, you will be in my prayers during retreat. I ask that you pray for me and all the priests I will be on retreat with during the week.

Prayer for a Retreat

Lord, Jesus Christ,
you told the apostles to retire
to a desert place and rest a while.
I am taking this time to follow
your example.
Grant that I may obtain all the
fruits that I can from this retreat.
Enable me to make it in union
with you,
to know myself better and
to get closer to you.
Help me to listen attentively,
to ponder prayerfully,
and to speak wisely.
Let me emerge from this spiritual
renewal as a more committed
Christian, better equipped to
advance along the path that you
have laid out for me.
