Q & A About Small Groups
What is a small group?
A small group is an assembly of about 10 people who meet regularly to discuss topics of common interest. For the "Beyond Sundays" program at SS Peter and Paul, the groups will discuss various aspects of the Catholic faith as it relates to their spiritual journeys.
Who should join a small group?
Small groups are for anyone who has a desire to grow in faith as a Catholic and to develop a personal relationship with Jesus.
What are the benefits of small groups?
Being part of a large church community can feel overwhelming or lonely at times. Small groups help people develop a sense of belonging and connection within the larger church. They also provide an opportunity for people to help each other progress in their personal faith journeys.
Where and when will the small groups meet?
The meetings will rotate between the homes of the small group members and will be held every two weeks. The day and time of each meeting is at the discretion of the group.
What will the group talk about?
The content discussed will come primarily from Formed.org, the "Catholic Netflix" website full of entertaining videos about our faith. During the first seven meetings, the groups will view episodes of "The Search" series as the topic of discussion.
What happens at each meeting?
Fisrt the group will spend some time socializing over some (very) light refreshments. Then everyone will settle in to watch the video. Lastly the group will talk about their impressions and reactions to the video. Questions about the video are available to prompt the discussion as needed.
How will the small groups be assembled?
If 8-12 people wish to be in a small group together, they can sign up as a group. Otherwise, people signing up as individuals or couples will be placed into groups based on preferred meeting day and time, location, stage of life, marital status, or randomly. It largely depends on how many people sign up.
Who leads the small group?
Each group will have a designated facilitator who is experienced in small group facilitation. Over time the facilitator role can rotate among group members. Since the discussion content is provided, facilitation will not require much preparation.
When will the program begin?
May 2023.
